Varma launches ETF with strict ESG criteria: "We wanted outright an investment target where we can play a central role in planning the fund's strategy"

When you do not find the product you need to realize your aims, you have to take the initiative yourself and launch the product yourself, says Varma Investment Director about Varma’s new fund developed together with LGIM and Foxberry.

This week, Finnish Varma launched an ETF in cooperation with Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) and Foxberry, which focuses on European equities with a strict ESG criteria.

Varma Investment Director Timo Sallinen explains to AMWatch that the idea to design the fund came from Varma. The EUR 46.5bn pension fund ended up developing the new project as it found no investment vehicles in the market that lived up to its own ESG criteria and had sufficient asset volume, Sallinen explains.
