BlackRock launches fixed income ESG ETF

Investor demand to integrate ESG into bond portfolios is behind the decision to launch the new investment grade iShares ETF.

BlackRock's iShares is launching a bond ETF with an ESG focus. The fund tracks the Bloomberg MSCI Global Aggregate Sustainable and Green Bond SRI Index and offers exposure to the bond market across 70 countries and in over 30 currencies, the manager announces in a statement.

The manager further states that the index the ETF tracks incorporates a series of ESG and business involvement screenings as well excluding issuers with an MSCI ESG rating lower than BBB. It also excludes sovereign and government bonds based on UN sanctions. At least 10 percent of the fund's value will be allocated to green bonds, according to BlackRock’s statement.
