In Finland, the country's second largest mutual pension insurer Varma pulled in a record half-year result in its history in th first six months of 2021. The company's portfolio yielded a total return of 10.4 percent, or EUR 5.2bn, and the value of the investments grew to EUR 55bn. Equity investments and hedge funds performed especially well.
In comparison, Varma's main competitor Ilmarinen pulled in a total return of 8.9 percent over the first half for its portfolio totaling EUR 57.5bn.
