With a past career in the UN and the Norwegian government, moving into the asset management industry was a great change for Emine Isciel, Head of Climate & Environment at Storebrand Asset Management. Nevertheless, accepting a role at the Norwegian asset manager was not a coincidence but a very conscious choice.

Which career path did you imagine for yourself when you were younger?

"Children rarely dream of a career in finance. I was never fascinated by numbers, but I was drawn to politics from when I was 15 or 16. Later on, I was fascinated by the politics of sustainability because they equip you with the theory needed to think over potential solutions.

When I graduated as a political scientist in 2007, I joined the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment and later on, the United Nations, where I mostly worked with multilateral agreements to support the sustainable development agenda. It took us more than three years of negotiations and debates to shape what is known as the Sustainable Development Goals today.
