Green-themed equity funds soar as fossil volatility wrenches investors' guts

Investor demand for low-carbon portfolios is not the only driver behind a massive growth in energy transition fund launches across both the Nordics and the wider world, long-term thematic investor Ulrik Fugmann explains. In the Nordics, fund managers Robert Slorach and Philip Ripman are the latest to oversee portfolios within the theme. Morningstar analyst expects that investors will have even more funds to pick from going forward.

Investing in companies that provide products and services aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from the energy sector has never been hotter. Across the world, asset managers are flooding the market with new thematic funds to accommodate a growing demand for low-carbon portfolios.

While investors have had the opportunity to invest in the green energy transition for many years by way of infrastructure projects or private market companies, the market for listed companies has only in recent years matured enough for many renewable businesses to stand alone without state subsidies.
