Top-ranked VC turns to Scandinavia in search for investors for sixth fund

Known as the cornerstone investor in Chinese tech company Baidu, venture capitalist Dr. Finian Tan is fundraising for his company Vickers Venture Partners’ sixth fund, targeting deep tech and life science companies making technological breakthroughs. Through its portfolio companies, Vickers wants to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues and has attracted a Swedish pension fund onboard.

A vaccine for Covid-19, curing cancer and solving the global plastic waste management issue.

These are some of the global hurdles the Singapore-based venture capitalist Dr. Finian Tan, chair and global chief investment officer, seeks to address through his investment company Vickers Venture Partners.

Known for his USD 7.5m seed investment in Chinese tech company Baidu in 2000, when valued at USD 30m, Finian Tan is during fundraising for Vickers’s sixth fund, targeting USD 500m in commitments, which unlike previous funds have opened for new external investors, with most of the capital in Vickers fifth fund coming from existing investors.
