Retail clients flock to Danish asset manager's index offering

Sparinvest's index investment universe, which was launched in 2001, saw 40 percent customer growth in 2019, opening private investors' eyes to passive investments. Just two months into 2020, sales growth is half of what it was in 2019.

2019 was a good year for investments, but that does not entirely explain the EUR 642 million (DKK 4.8 billion) growth in Sparinvest's 20 passive investment funds, which totaled EUR 2.4 billion (DKK 18 billion) by the end of the year.

Retail investors in particular have had their eyes opened to index funds, putting EUR 281 million (DKK 2.1 billion) in new investments into Sparinvest's passive universe, Sparindex. Investments in the 20 passive funds are pegged to an agreed share index.
