Mixing quant and sustainability: Inside the machinery at Robeco's strategy development

As rule-based investment strategies with a sustainability overlay are mushrooming across the Nordics, the investment universe sometimes tends to become too constraint compared to the benchmark.

Nordic institutions are craving quantitative investment strategies, as this rule-based approach offers exposure to market segments that have outperformed in the past. One challenge, however, relates to the ability to engineer these types of strategies into the most predominant trend in asset management: Sustainability.

Robeco is one asset manager trying to do accomplish this feat. The Rotterdam-based asset manager recently held a seminar in central Copenhagen on how to develop a factor-based strategy with a customized sustainability overlay.
