What PKA wants from a hedge fund manager: The dos and don'ts

Senior portfolio manager Mads Gjedsted Nielsen oversees roughly 20 investment strategies simultaneously at Denmark's labor market pension provider for healthcare professionals, social workers and pharmacologists, PKA.

PKA launched its first absolute return strategy in 2009, and now, roughly 12 percent of its total pot of EUR 36.2 billion is invested in these strategies-- which aim to generate a steady, positive return no matter whether the market is in deeply pessimistic or wildly optimistic mood. This translates to roughly EUR 4.34 billion.
