How to build a stable pension portfolio for Canadian school teachers

ATP's former head of investment, Bjarne Graven Larsen, rebuilt the portfolio of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in 2016. The aim was to build a stable and reliable portfolio. Generally, he believes, pension funds are reluctant to construct this type of investment pot because of the favorable equity market.

For more than a decade, Bjarne Graven Larsen was heading the investment arm of Denmark's largest pension fund, ATP. He then spent a few years on the winding-down of FIH Bank, and in 2016 he took off to Canada to assume the role of CIO at one of the world's largest pension funds, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, or OTPP.

After two and a half years in Canada, he is now back in Denmark, and last week, was keynote speaker at CFA Institute's annual conference in Copenhagen.
