US fund giant attracted to wind investments in Sweden

Swedish wind power is among the most attractive renewable energy asset classes in the world, and US fund manager Blackrock, which has invested billions in Swedish windfarms, has started a new record fund for environmental investments.

"It is a very strong trend in asset management that investors' interest to invest in infrastructure -- especially renewable energy -- is increasing sharply. And here, Swedish wind power is very competitive," Sverker Åkerblom, portfolio manager at Blackrock's Stockholm office, tells Swedish business daily Dagens Industri.

According to its own account, Blackrock is the world's largest fund manager. The listed company manages around EUR 6,300 billion in a variety of mutual funds, not least for pension funds and other institutional investors. But Blackrock is also among the largest in renewable energy investments.
