Nordea AM: Low interest rates has the potential to affect the fee structures in AM industry

Active asset management being replaced by passive management is not the main issue when it comes to pressure on fees in the AM industry. CEO Nils Bolmstrand of Nordea AM blames low interest rates.

According to Nordea Asset Management CEO Nils Bolmstrand, passive management and the emergence of ETFs are not the main threat to the asset management industry's fees. The main problem for the fees is low interest rates. In a panel at the conference Citywire Berlin 2019, Nils Bolmstrand said:

"When it comes to the fees, I'm not so sure that it's about the passive or active or ETFs. I think we all face a situation where our industry has no problem lowering the interest rates but our industry and a lot of other industries have issues with low interest rates."
