Sustainable bond issuances exceed 2020 at six-month mark – SEB predicts strong trend will continue

SEB expects green bond issuances to accelerate further this year as the EU prepares to start financing its Covid-19 recovery plan.

After the first six months of the year, sustainable debt issuances have reached USD 761bn (EUR 645bn), which is already more than the total issuances of USD 759bn (EUR 644bn) in 2020, SEB reports in its newly released green bond report, which is issued several times a year.

The same goes for the large subgroup, sustainable bonds, which can be divided into green bonds, social bonds and sustainability bonds. SEB believes that issuances can more than double from here.
